Croatia: Introduction of emergency income tax

The Croatian government has decided to introduce as an emergency:

  • a 3% "crisis tax" on incomes,
  • increase VAT by 1% and
  • suspend zero VAT rates.

These changes will come into force on the 1st August 2009.

The "crisis tax" will apply until the end of 2010 and will be payable by employees and self-employed workers with salaries over 3,000 kunas per month(EUR 409).
