Slovenian Visas and Work Permits
Our tax guide for freelance contractors working in Slovenia
Slovenia has been a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004. After initially continuing to apply the principle of reciprocity for the free movement of workers, Slovenia ceased to do so on 25 May 2006. Since then, nationals of EU or EEA Member States do not require a work permit to access the Slovenian labour market and may apply for open positions on the same terms as Slovenian nationals. Slovenia wants to monitor trends in the labour market, though, and therefore the employer must register the employment with the competent employment service within 8 days of the individual starting work. Equally, the provision of services has to be registered by the subscriber at least 3 days before the service is performed. Work permit applications for other foreigners can be lengthy and difficult.
