Egyptian Work Permits and Visas
Our tax guide for freelance contractors working in Egypt
All foreign nationals are required to obtain valid entry visas to enter Egypt and a foreign national may only work in Egypt if he/she has obtained a work permit which is usually granted for one year and must be renewed annually regardless of the time the individual has been in Egypt. After a work permit has been obtained, the foreign national’s visa (whether tourist or temporary) is converted into a work visa with the same duration as the work permit. Work permits are generally granted only if all efforts to identify an Egyptian national to fill the position have been exhausted.
Applications, including support documents for the company for whom the foreign national is needed and a medical certificate from the individual, must be filed with the labour office in Egypt and the Ministry of Manpower has the discretion to either reject or accept any application, there being no quota system in existence.
