Nationals of the EU/EEA Member States and Switzerland, including citizens of the two most recent Member States Bulgaria and Romania, are able to work without restriction in Cyprus.
Citizens from all other States need to go through a full Immigration Permit application.
To obtain an Immigration Permit:
An application has to be submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Department. It will be examined by the Immigration Control Board which submits a relevant suggestion to the Minister of the Interior for a decision to be taken. In the case of Category E applications, i.e. persons who have been offered permanent employment in Cyprus, it is necessary to prove that the granting of the permit will not create undue local competition. This means that no suitable candidate was available on the Cypriot or European labour market.
