Nationals of the EU/EEA Member States and Switzerland, including Cyprus, Malta, Bulgaria and Romania are not able to work in China without a visa / work permit.
Citizens from all countries need to go through a full visa /work permit application under the conditions given by the Chinese immigration authorities. There are several visas available depending on the purpose of your entry into China.
- F Visa, is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months.
- Z Visa, is issued to a foreign national who comes to China for a post or employment, and his or her accompanying family members. Z visa is valid for one entry, three months. The holder of a (Z) visa shall go through residential formalities in the local public security department within thirty days of entry into China.
To obtain a visa and work permit
If you intend to enter, exit or transit through Chinese territory, an application for a Chinese visa has to be made via Chinese embassies, consulates, and other offices authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
