For all nationalities, a visa is required for individuals seeking entrace to Australia prior to entry. Certain types of visa are granted according to apoints system based on supply and demand.
To obtain a work permit: Australia has a shortage of skilled workers and offers professionals several work permit programmes: Australian and overseas employers can sponsor and employ skilled workers who have recognised qualifications and skills/or experience in particular occupations required in Australia (see Australia's Skilled Occupation List - SOL). People who are not sponsored by an emplyoer, who are over 18 and under 49 years of age and who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia (see SOL) can apply for a work permit according to the General Skilled Migration Programme.
