Medical arrangements
As well as ensuring that you have the correct social security cover while working overseas, you need to ensure that you are covered in the event of a medical emergency. In many countries the social security system is excellent and therefore it is not necessary to take out private cover. In some countries, however, it is either a legal obligation to have private cover, or the cover provided will not be of the level you may be accustomed to or that may be required for particular activities.
For example in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany (above a certain salary level) you must have some form of local private cover, while this is not the case in the most other European countries. Please refer to our guides to international tax legislation for specific details or contact us for more information.
